Cost, Deposit And Travel
Why does sprayed cabinet painting cost more than brushing?
Spraying takes more setup, more masking and more containment, and on a shop model it takes a second trip for the doors. What it buys is a film with no brush ridges and no roller texture, which is what people mean when they ask for a factory finish. The extra usually runs a few hundred to fifteen hundred dollars on a full kitchen.
Is a deposit required before cabinet painting starts?
A deposit is taken when the job is booked, and it holds the dates and covers the product order for the specified colour. The balance follows the walkthrough at reinstallation. Everything owing is on the written quote before anybody signs, with no allowances that get filled in later.
How far outside Kitchener does the cabinet painting go?
Waterloo and Breslau are routine, and so are St. Jacobs, Elmira, Maryhill, Wellesley, Baden, New Hamburg and New Dundee. Travel time to those places is built into the quoted price rather than added afterwards as a separate charge.
How The Job Runs
What is the first thing that happens on a cabinet painting job?
Degreasing and labelling. Doors, drawer fronts and hinges come off, every piece gets a number that matches its opening, and the layout is photographed before anything moves. Cabinet painting that starts with a sprayer on day one is skipping the steps that decide the outcome.
Do the cabinets have to be emptied?
The boxes being painted need to be empty, and anything on the counters below the work area has to move. A pantry or a run that is not being touched can stay loaded. The house is still livable throughout, since the cabinet painting happens in a contained zone rather than across the whole kitchen.
What happens to the old hinges and hardware?
Hinges are bagged with their own doors and reused unless they are being upgraded, and old pulls are set aside for the household to keep or discard. Anything being replaced is discussed at the quote so the cabinet painting schedule allows for new hole drilling and filling.
Colour, Sheen And Season
Can the existing colour be matched exactly on a repair?
Close, rarely exact. A finish that has been in a kitchen for years has warmed and worn in its own light, so a fresh mix of the original colour will not sit perfectly beside it. Repainting a whole run or a whole wall solves it properly.
Do white cabinets go yellow over time?
Alkyd-based whites warm slightly in direct sunlight, most noticeably in a south-facing kitchen over the first year. Two-component polyurethanes and non-yellowing urethane enamels hold their colour better. A satin sheen also disguises the change more than a semi-gloss does.
Can cabinet painting be done in the middle of winter?
Yes, and winter is often the better season. Doors are sprayed in a climate-controlled booth regardless of the weather, and a January house at 20 to 30 per cent indoor humidity cures a waterborne coating faster than a muggy July does. Solid wood panels do shrink slightly in dry winter air, which is allowed for rather than fought.
Care, Chipping And Insurance
What cleaning is safe on a fresh cabinet painting finish?
A damp cloth and mild dish soap, nothing more, for the first month. Abrasive pads, bleach sprays and degreasing kitchen cleaners will all mark a coating that has not reached full hardness. After the cure window the same gentle routine still gives the longest life.
Will the new finish chip around the handles?
Cabinet painting done properly chips far less than a wall paint would and far less than a thick brushed coat does. The handle zone and the cutlery drawer wear harder than anywhere else in a kitchen, so thin sprayed coats, correct primer and respected cure time are what keep them intact. Using drawers hard before the coating has cured is the most common cause of early chipping.
Is the cabinet painting work insured?
Yes, the business is fully insured. The written quote lists the products, the coats and the schedule, so everyone knows what was agreed. Impact damage, water damage from a failed sink and abrasive cleaning pads are separate from the finish itself.
